Visual Studies 02
An ongoing homage to our textile artisan pioneers across time. We draw attention to the personalities behind the looms, celebrating their influences and taking inspiration from their contributions, which continue to open up new ways of thinking and making. Starting with our first textile teacher, the exceptional Anni Albers. Albers became a renowned textile teacher through her innovative approach to weaving, her time at influential institutions like the Bauhaus, and her ability to merge traditional craft with modern design.

mohair
The mohair blanket is a soft, voluminous blanket with a welcoming tactility, hand-woven using the finest mohair with added wool for greater body and increased longevity. Our Artisans follow centuries-old tradition working the Angora fibres into superlatively soft blankets. Smooth and lustrous in texture, each is breathable and lightweight, crease - resistant and kind to sensitive skin.
As a naturally renewable resource needing no chemical treatment, mohair goes gently on the earth in its production while providing strength and resilience when spun into yarn.

Albers mastered technical and artistic aspects of weaving, pushing textiles beyond their conventional role. When she and Josef Albers fled Nazi Germany and joined Black Mountain College in I933, she developed a groundbreaking curriculum that emphasized experimentation, material exploration, and the conceptual potential of weaving.
Her teaching philosophy encouraged students to think beyond patterns and function, treating textiles as a form of artistic expression. She also shared her knowledge widely through lectures, essays, and her influential book On Weaving (I965), which became a foundational text for textile artists and designers. Through her process of blending historical techniques with modernist ideas and encouraging hands-on learning, Albers reshaped textile education and cemented her legacy as one of the most influential textile teachers of the zoth century.
